Two-Layered Origami Tessellation

Abstract

Origami tessellation is a class of origami design that is based on a polygon tiling. In this project, we propose a new category of origami tessellation named two-layered origami tessellation that is composed of a figure layer and a ground layer. Both layers are composed of polygon tiles, and the figure layer looks like it has been slightly lifted up from the ground layer. We introduce a method for creating origami tessellation crease patterns. We show the validity of our method by presenting examples of the crease patterns and the folded forms.

概要

幾何学的なタイルの並びを折り紙で表現する手法として平織り（Tessellation）が知られている。本プロジェクトでは、模様層と背景層のいずれかを割り当てた凸多角形の集合を入力とし、平織りを基本とした構造を用いて模様層の多角形を背景層から持ちあげられるよう折り畳むことで、ある種の模様が浮かび上がって見える造形手法を提案する。紙の衝突を考慮しないという条件の下、任意の図形から展開図を生成する一般的な方法を考案した。
